What is FCL?
Updated over a year ago

FCL stands for "Full Container Load" in ocean freight and describes sea shipping for cargo loads large enough to fill the entire space of a container, without being shared with other shippers' goods. In other words, the container is filled with the goods of one single shipper.

This method of shipping is often used for larger, bulkier, or more valuable items that require their own designated space and do not need to be combined or shared with other shipments.

The main factor in determining the cost of FCL shipments is the size of the container, typically measured in 20ft or 40ft options. The more containers you require, the higher the cost. It is important to note that the minimum amount of space that can be reserved for FCL is one full container. While FCL tends to be more affordable per cubic meter than LCL (Less than Container Load), it is still more costly than air freight. Additionally, FCL shipments carry a lower risk of damage or loss due to minimal handling.
